What... Photo/Video sharing is one of the most dynamic and expressive tools to hit web 2.0. In a rapidly changing world that we live in today, we are connecting more frequently with more people in more expressive ways.

Wikipedia definition:

Photo sharing :
Is the publishing or transfer of a user's digital photos online, thus enabling the user to share them with others (whether publicly or privately). This functionality is provided through both websites and applications that facilitate the upload and display of images. The term can also be loosely applied to the use of online photo galleries that are set up and managed by individual users, including photoblogs.

Video Hosting:
A video hosting service allows individuals to upload video clips to an Internet website. The video host will then store the video on its server, and show the individual different types of code to allow others to view this video. The website, mainly used as the video hosting website, is usually called the video sharing website. The purpose of Video Hosting (for users):
  • Save on bandwidth costs, often eliminating costs entirely
  • Creating a common place
  • Make a hassle-free experience, where uploading a video and streaming or embedding would normally require advanced programming knowledge. It is now commonly achieved through a web browser, with little or no programming experience.

Video sharing refers to websites or software where users can distribute their video clips.

Why... Because we can!
Friends and families in London who were unable to attend Jimmy's 21st in Levin now have more options than sending the good 'ole telegram - why not flick on that webcam or hook up Skype so you don't miss out on that long awaited speech.
It means that your photos are backed up safely, no chance of them being destroyed by fire! It also means that you can widen the audience for your photographs. Many of the photo sharing sites have comment options that can provide encouragement and feedback on your photography skills and memories!

On the education front it gives 'real world links' to students who can now connect with students anywhere in the world via skype!
